Goal: A prototype of a mobile app on Figma that is based on scenario-based learning and provides more advanced speech recognition for second language learners.
Audience: Second language learners who want to learn speaking skills
Problem: during user interviews, students voiced their struggle in terms of every day communication in second language. Culture was also a big gap in many language learning apps where learners have specific choices that are not culturally responsive (Landson-Billings, 2021)
Technology: a prototype for a mobile app
Action: My role in the project was the teacher, the researcher and the designer with another colleague. The project was part of a graduate course: MSTU 4040 at Columbia University.
Choices: scenario-based learning was used to get students engaged with immediate feedback on their language performance.
